Currency is important in any reality and holds immense value in World of Warcraft, however it is slightly easier to earn in WoW than real life.
In this guide I try to explain the different ways some of the top Gold earners make their income on WoW. There are numerous ways to earn gold on Wow, some more fun than others and some more profitable than others.
To be clear there is no one ultimate way to earn gold, how much gold you earn with any particular method varies from server to server. For instance on one server Copper Bars may be on high demand but in another they may sell for nothing. There are methods that are constant however such as ‘Grinding’ but this is repetitive and can get very boring but if you wish to level yourself while getting gold than this is an effective way to do it.
Here is an overview of some of the different methods used to earn Gold:
Grinding
Grinding is probably the simplest and most understood way of earning Gold. Grinding involves finding a monster rich area with good drops and then basically just killing everything and looting everything in your path. This can become quite tedious and really depends on your class but you can earn a fair bit of Gold this way.
People will tend to grind a little while questing to take the edge off a little so it’s not so boring but grinding can actually increase your level a lot quicker than questing.
Grinding can be done at any level but to earn any real money you are required to be of a sufficiently high level as the lower level mobs do not drop any high amount of gold.
The other bonus of grinding is the item drops. Usually you can find a number of good items while grinding and this can earn you a bit of money.
Professions
This is my preferred method of earning gold and is also highly effective for the lower levels. The most effective way to earn money through a profession is to learn the gathering professions such as mining and Skinning (I find this to be the best combination) and sell the materials you collect.
Other professions can also earn you money such as Herbalism and Enchanting but I do not recommend these for lower levels as low level Herbs are worth little and Enchanting can be costly to begin, this may vary from server to server however.
I find mining and Skinning to be the best to begin with as Leather and the low level minerals such as Copper and Iron can be worth quite a bit. These two professions also work well if you do not want to go out of your way to make money as you usually pick up a lot of Ore and Leather just questing normally.
I do not recommend leatherworking or blacksmithing for lower levels as you don’t really make anything anybody wants as it is too low of a level.
Flipping
If you fancy yourself as bit of business man than flipping is for you. Flipping is the term given to the practice of buying items and then selling them for a higher price. It also involves grinding mobs with good drop rates for high level items for you to trade off.
The one major bonus in doing this is you have a pick of some really high level items. As you are constantly trading high level items, you usually come across a number of items that you can use instead and this can increase your power level quite dramatically.
Flipping isn’t for the lower levels unless you have some start up money. This way you can start buying out cheap sought after items and selling them for an inflated price. You just build up as you level and get more gold. This is a fairly non obtrusive way to make money as you just have to do a little bit every time you are at an auction house.
Other means:
Fishing and cooking are also effective methods of earning Gold but require more time and can be quite boring. If you are after a more in depth Gold guide than I recommend the Gold Secrets guide:
